Every year Post 9983 supports several long-standing programs, please see below for additional information on these programs, scholarships, and awards of acknowledgement.
Teacher of the Year: Every year Post 9983 receives, reviews, and sponsors nominations for elementary, middle, and high school teachers of the year to the national level where they can be selected to participate in the Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Techer program. Nominations are due to the post by midnight on October 31st. For more information please see the

Scholarships: Every year Post 9983 collects, reads/listens to, and chooses from local student essay submissions for VFW Scholarships. Winners are chosen at the state and national levels, and receive scholarship money for their efforts. Please see below for additional information about these programs.
- Voice of Democracy Scholarship: Students in grades 9-12 express themselves with a recorded essay and submit them to their local VFW post for a chance to win up to a $30,000 scholarship paid directly to their university, college, or vocational/technical school. The 2021-2022 theme is

Toys for Tots: Every year Post 9983 supports the Toys For Tots Foundation by serving as a drop-off location for toys. More information is available on the
